Does Your Carpet Smell?
If you deep clean your carpets and there is still an odor afterwards, it is time to replace it. Years of buildup can’t always be cleaned. The smell stays and the odor will continue to stick to it. If you have pets, it can be especially difficult to remove carpet odor. If a professional carpet cleaning does not lift the odor, it is a sign you need to replace the carpet.
Are the Stains Not Coming Out?
Another sign that new carpet is needed is the presence of stains that won’t lift. The DIY removers for stains that you see online, like tea and bleach, can sometimes make the stains even worse and harder to remove. Even if your carpet has a stain-resistant finish, after a few years this will deplete and become nonexistent. If you keep trying to remove the stains, it will most likely just fade your carpet in those spots. Polyester material usually mats easily, and is not very strong when exposed to cleaning products. Carpets that experience heavy foot traffic tend to become matted easily. When a carpet is matted, there isn’t much you can do to save it. It loses its plushness and its appearance.
Mold
Also, if your carpet has mold, it is time to get rid of it. You cannot salvage it after that. If you have pets, urination can cause mold if not cleaned properly. In basements, the dampness can cause mold to grow under the carpet. Don’t wait until the mold spreads; replace it as soon as possible.
